Location

Located near the north shores of Lake Tahoe, Diamond Peak is just a five-minute drive away from the town of Incline Village and less than an hour outside of Reno.

Why Diamond Peak

With more than 1,800 feet of vertical drop and 30 runs across 655 skiable acres, this community-owned resort has all the thrills of nearby corporate ski areas—at a much lower price tag. Lift tickets at Diamond Peak cost much less than other Tahoe resorts, allowing for a more budget-friendly ski day that doesn’t skimp on excitement.

Who Are Conditions Suitable For

Speaking of, everyone in your group will be able to find a run that suits them. Though the terrain mostly caters to intermediate and advanced skiers, even beginners will have trails to choose from. The on-site Ski & Ride Center also hosts lessons for visitors of all skill levels and ages. Adaptive skiers, too, can get in on the fun with discounted tickets.

An Ecofriendly Ski Resort

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Diamond Peak has undertaken several sustainability measures to make your ski trip that much more eco-friendly. This includes using energy-efficient snowmaking machines and maintaining slopes to prevent soil erosion, which can contaminate Lake Tahoe. In short, Diamond Peak has everything that you might need for a ski day (or several) off the beaten path.

Best Time to Visit Diamond Peak

November to March

Naturally, winter will be the best time of year to visit and ski at Diamond Peak. In fact, it’s the only time, as the ski resort closes during the off-season.

While you can hike or bike up the mountain in warm weather, you’ll generally want to plan your trip between November and March to see the most action.

Besides the world-class skiing, Diamond Peak’s calendar stays packed all winter long, with events like the Ski Season Kickoff Party, on-slope visits with Santa, UllrFest, and even an UnBirthday Celebration.

Snow Conditions and Winter Temperatures

In the winter, temperatures typically range between highs in the 40s and lows in the teens. Incline Village gets an average of 138 inches of snow every year, but you’ll likely see much more up on the slopes. And even if you happen to visit during a dry spell, you’ll still be able to ski thanks to Diamond Peak’s advanced snowmaking capabilities.

Visiting Diamond Peak Year Round

If you can’t visit this winter, don’t worry—there are plenty of other things to do in Incline Village and around Lake Tahoe all year round. In warmer weather, you can take a hike, go for a kayaking tour across Tahoe’s crystal clear waters, or simply lay back and relax on one of the gorgeous sandy beaches.

Things to Do at Diamond Peak Ski Resort

If you think you’ll be limited to old-fashioned downhill skiing and snowboarding at Diamond Peak, you’d be wrong. Numerous different activities will keep you busy during your visit, no matter what kind of ski day you hope to have.

Here’s what we’d recommend to get started:

1. Try the Terrain Park

For those who want to give jumps, boxes, and rails their best shot, the Village Terrain Park has a little something for everyone. The park’s features vary widely in difficulty and can be used by all skill levels, as the park managers have focused on crafting a community-friendly space.

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced shredder, you’re sure to find something new to try at the Village Terrain Park. At the end of your run, hop on the nearby Red Fox chairlift to give the park another go. Practice makes perfect, after all.

2. Take an Uphill Route

Skip the chairlift lines and get in a serious workout by ‘uphilling’: walking up the mountain with your ski or snowboard gear to reach your next run. Visitors can purchase a special Uphill Access Pass or a Diamond Peak season pass, don snowshoes or skins, and get to trekking.

To prevent crowding, Diamond Peak only opens specific uphilling routes at certain times of the day, so make sure to check the ski resort’s website before you set out. Tiring though it may be, this rewarding activity will help you avoid much of the main resort crowds and allow you to slow down for some breathtaking scenic views.

3. Get Into the Glades

Though tree skiing is a hallmark of all Lake Tahoe ski resorts, Diamond Peak claims to have the best tree runs around. We’d have to agree—Diamond Peak’s slopes include more than a dozen gladed runs across 500 acres, from fast-paced thrill rides to more mellow options that are perfect for newbies in need of a little warm-up.

On powder days, you’re sure to stumble across some pristine drifts and pillows deep in the glades.

4. Sit and Sip

You might find yourself getting thirsty after a few good runs. Luckily, there are plenty of different places at Diamond Peak where guests can warm up with a cocktail, glass of wine, or a pint.

Head down to the Base Lodge to grab a drink at the Loft Bar, or stop by the Alibi Ale Works Pop-Up Bar for a quick sip.

Don’t want to leave the slopes behind? Up on the mountain, the Snowflake Lodge has Happy Hour drink specials and pours a variety of beer, wine, and cocktails. We recommend the resort’s signature drink, known as the Snowflake Snuggler—think of it as the perfect hot cocoa for grown-ups. Whatever you order, you’ll get to enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe as you sip.
